Hello all.
We’re still here hanging out in Long Island. The anchorage in Thompson Bay as you can probably tell (because we’re still here) is just wonderful. We’ve been having a great time getting to know the locals and fellow cruisers in the area.
Not a whole lot going on ..for some excitement the water truck came and we were able to do a load of laundry in a double loader washing machine at the local hangout which is not only a restaurant and bar but a resort with a pool too …now that was an exciting day. Beautiful quaint resort you should check out their site: http://www.longislandbreezeresort.com

These kids were from Michigan and this was a highlight of their trip swimming with the manatee. An adventure that they did not expect to have in the Bahamas.
There was a small manatee that came to the dinghy dock one day and it was so cute! A few people got into the water with it and it seemed like it liked the attention and was even hugging on one of the ladies. (I think that she had a water jug earlier in that morning and was giving it water and that was why it liked her so much.) In case you did not know manatees love drinking fresh water. Manatees are not common in the Bahamas so this was a rare treat.

Buoy path….we were not sure where it would lead but we followed it anyways and found the most beautiful beach.
We went to a fundraiser thrift sale on the north end of the island and I was able to find a couple of treasures and that was fun. I miss being able to shop the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores back home…nothing like that here. On the way back we were walking down the main road and saw a couple of buoys tied to a tree that lead down a rocky path to one of the most beautiful beaches that we have ever seen…the beaches here are pink…so pretty! Long Island gives PCB a run for it’s money in the beautiful beaches category.
I met a wonderful lady named Penny who makes jewelry from sea glass. I shared with her some of the glass that we found in Bimini and she showed me how to drill the glass and some of her other techniques for jewelry making. Now I can finally start making cool things with all the sea glass that we find. I got a couple of pretty bracelets from her too. Now let’s hope that our luck continues and we still find glass along the way like we have in the past now that I know what to do with it.
Just a side note…Penny and her husband Bob have been cruising for years and are finally giving it up for the landlubber life and selling their boat…it is a beautiful boat and if you are thinking of cruising in style you should take a look. She is a real gem…check her out if you dare to dream… http://prettypennycruise.blogspot.com

One of the many rock walls that are found all over the island. Most were built many ages ago and can be found just about everywhere here.
Oh yea, I got to hitch-hike for the first time. We had to make a trip to the bank but it was 9 miles away…too long in my opinion to ride the bikes…18 miles round trip. Brian was of course up to the bike ride but I put my foot down on that one…it’s way too hot here and that’s too far! We stuck our thumbs out and it took no longer than a couple of minutes…if that and we had a ride…this was what it was like going both ways. Apparently this is a common mode of transportation for the locals without cars so we fit right in. Another first for me. Remember kids reading at home, don’t try this in the US…yes, Denise this means you!
We’re thinking that we might head out on Wednesday or Thursday next week. We’re supposed to get a north to north-west wind and that’s what we’ll be looking for to push us further east and south for where new adventures wait for us. We are ready to move on and explore.
Here I thought that I had nothing to write about and I’ve ended up writing a book. Whew!
We also have had some issues with comments that were left on our blog not showing up…sorry if this happened to you but we think that we’ve got the problem resolved so go ahead and leave us a note and let us know that your thinking of us…we sure are thinking of and missing all of you!
Take care all,
Jennifer and Brian
