All was well on our trip from Key Largo to Key Biscayne. When we arrived at Elliot Key it was closed for repairs so it was a bummer that we did not get to explore and have fun there. It was really windy though with a couple of cold fronts blowing through but Brian as always found us a great spot and we tucked up behind some shallows and we were “snug as a bug” through all of the rough weather. After finding out that Elliot was not an option we went ahead to Key Biscayne and made preparations for our Bimini crossing.
We love Key Biscayne it has a beautiful park. There is a nice harbor there called No Name and we usually anchor in there but when we arrived it was packed out.
We opted instead to anchor just outside the harbor. This was a good spot except for in the mornings and late afternoons when the big charter fishing boats would come flying by and literally rock our world. Big wakes… hold on tight!!
The park is fun to explore with the lighthouse on the point and lots of walking/biking trails. It’s also not far from a Winn Dixie and other shopping so it’s a good stop before crossing. Can we say last beer run before the Bahamas??We stocked up with our last minute goodies and we were on our way.
Crossing over was uneventful with the exception of a US Coast Guard inspection while we were underway at about the halfway mark to Bimini. We passed with flying colors and with just a few scrapes on the side of our boat. I know that it hard to board a vessel when it is underway but still, they were a bit rough when bringing the boats together to board. Can anyone say crunch…thankfully though no damage.
Anyhow we survived and are currently anchored in Bimini…Yea!! We got a tight little space just by the Big Game Club just out of the current. We spent the day looking for sea glass and we’ve been successful, but I’m saving our Bimini story for next posting. Until then take care…I’ve gotta go there is a shark that is swimming around Brian in the kayak…I better watch out for him, or better yet see if I can get a photo for our blog… 🙂
Love you all –
