It’s that time again…what are we up to now? Sometimes, a lot of the time now actually, I’m finding that we’re so all over the place with our boat work and every day life that it’s hard to keep track of it all. Lots of things don’t warrant a post of their own, ether because the event itself is too small to worth noting, or even because there’s a lack of good photos. I keep forgetting to take my camera with me when we go to town and I’ve missed out on some good pics of everyday stuff here that is not so every day elsewhere.
Brian been spending a lot of time scraping, fiber-glassing, sanding and painting making lots of noise down below. He probably has the whole anchorage wondering what the heck is going on here on Moon with the generator and sander going full blast. As for me I’ve been doing simpler tasks that have been put off for too long like polishing railings and blocks and such.
Glamorous right? Not exactly, but necessary tasks. Moon is an old girl and she requires lots of TLC. You probably didn’t envision hard labor when you thought of us out here, only sunny days and snorkeling but the the two have to go hand in hand for us to make this possible. To all of our family and friends, do you still wish that you lived on a boat like us, still jealous? If so…there is plenty of room for you aboard we could always use an extra hand, come and visit us anytime!
OK, so we are not all work and no play although it sometimes feels like it. We have taken a couple of days off to spend at Flamenco Beach …which is still beautiful by the way, just the way that we remembered. It is one of those “picture postcard” beaches. It is a very pretty beach, crescent shaped with beautiful soft white sand and a reef with lots of fish within snorkeling distance from the beach. It’s a great place to spend the day swimming, snorkeling and people watching. This beach is the main reason that most people come to Culebra so there is always something going on and it’s a fun place to relax and unwind.
For our first trip there we rode our bikes and I thought that my heart was going to pop right out of my chest! We had to ride over a hill to get there, me huffing and puffing the whole way..even after I got off of the bike to walk it the rest of the way up the hill. Then I found out on the way back that the hill going there was not as steep as the hill was heading back! Gotta love the bikes though because once we got to the top it was awesome flying down! We got lucky and our friend Les drove us there the second time we went…riding by jeep was a nice treat my heart did not pound half as much, thanks Les!
When we’ve talked to our families back home we keep hearing about how nice the weather is and that it is starting to feel like fall. I have to admit that I am a bit jealous, here it is still like summer. Hot and humid!
We have had a few unexpected windy nights that have woken us up. One night we had up our big shade sail up and the wind suddenly picked up to 30+ and as Brian was taking it down we started to drag. Oh yea, that was lots of fun. Nothing like having your boat on the move when you don’t want it to be. So here we are in the middle of the night scrambling to get our huge sunshade down, it flapping in the wind all over place. Poor Brian got whipped by one of the lines across the neck..ouch! On “normal” calm days we usually take our wheel off to make room in our small cockpit so I had to get our wheel back on the helm so I could steer the boat. I’m sure that we were would have been quite the sight if you could have seen us running around in our jammies (or lack of) in the middle of the night on deck.
Still think that we have it made out here in paradise…there is always a surprise waiting for us around the corner! That’s what keeps us going though always something new. What did we learn this go around? Always take the big shade sail down every night no matter how calm you think it’s going to be 🙂
OK I better put this down and get back to work. Take care all until next time.
