Each month a bizarre yet romantic display takes place in the shallow waters of the Caicos Banks. Just after sunset for three to six nights after the full moon the glow worms perform their mating rituals. While the lovely lady glow worm swims towards the surface, she releases her bio-luminescent eggs that make bright green glowing spots, which seem to attract the handsome Mr. glow worm. He literally lights up with his own bio-luminescence and the scene provides quite the show. He joins the lovely lady and spins in circles, dancing around her and a baby glow worms life has begun. At the height of their mating ritual the water is literally speckled with green fairy lights. Brian said that it reminded him of the sidewalks at Disney World all lit up. This happened all around our boat for 4 nights in a row. It was quite a spectacular show and we had a front seat for the performance. I had never even known these worms existed. I wonder if this is where they got the idea for the glow worm dolls that I remember as a kid?
Again, very cool!
Thanks Brian glad that your reading…one more post to come with photos too 🙂
